Introduction to Clay workshops for Classes 4 & 5
Your son/daughter is invited to take part in a pottery workshop held at the school on the 4th and 5th of June. During the session, the children will be guided to design, make and refine a pottery artefact linked to the theme of the environment.
An outline of the workshop is as follows:
Throwing Taster Throughout the morning, each child will be individually guided to explore the sensory experience using the potters’ wheel. Consideration of the senses used to shape the clay as well as forces involved.
Slip-decorated Sculpture: Working with 250g of clay, pupils will use hand-building tools and techniques to shape and refine a sculpture representing their chosen animal or plant connecting to the current climate and environmental concerns.
They will be guided to wear appropriate messy-play clothing on the day, any clay materials on clothes can be easily wiped away or washed in a normal laundry cycle.
We hope that you are as excited as we are to be working with your children, and offering this unique opportunity to experience hands on learning.
With your generous contributions we hope we can make experiences like this more regular and for more classes.
Please complete the consent form ( sent to you by email from the school) and return to the school.
Yours sincerely,
